Pre Purchase Survey

A Pre Purchase Marine Survey is always recommended before buying your next vessel. This survey is the most comprehensive inspection we offer. We gather as much information about the condition of the boat before purchase and the overall operation is examined. This covers:

• Structural Integrity
• Electrical Systems
• Propulsion
• Fuel System
• Navigation Equipment
• Sanitation
• Safety Equipment
• Cosmetics

The yacht may be hauled out for a bottom inspection of the hull, shafts, propellers, rudders and through hulls. After completing the bottom inspection a sea trial is often performed. We will also review the vessel documentation, hull numbers, and the history of service records when available. A current market valuation and replacement valuation of the vessel will also be given.

Insurance Survey

A Boat Insurance Survey is conducted and is generally requested by your insurance company to determine whether or not the boat is an acceptable risk. They are interested in the structural integrity and safety for the vessels intended use. Most insurance companies require a survey on older boats. They will also want to know the vessel's fair market value. Normally, no sea trial or haul out is required. This survey is not as extensive as the Pre Purchase Marine Survey. The main intent is to identify the vessel, equipment, general condition and value. The survey will also identify hazardous conditions that may pose a safety risk to the vessel and its passengers. An assessment of vessel safety equipment as per the U.S.C.G. Federal requirements are stated.

Appraisal Survey

The Boat Appraisal Survey is conducted to determine the fair market of the vessel. This is normally required for financing, estate settlements, donations, and legal cases. The focus of this survey is limited to setting a fair market value based on the vessel systems and overall condition.

Sea Trial

A sea trial is conducted to determine that the vessel performs within the manufacturers listed specifications. A basic engine inspection is conducted. The engine is observed for wide open throttle RPMs per the engine manufacturer specs. The condition of the hoses, belts, and fuel lines are checked. Motor mounts are inspected and the engine is monitored for any fluid leaks. Exhaust smoke is gauged and engine temperature readings are recoded. We inspect steering, throttle and shift controls. If the engine is not performing properly or a problem is detected, a repair recommendation is provided.

Oil Analysis

Oil Analysis Oil analysis is offered in addition to any of our marine survey services. The oil is drawn from the motor, typically after they have been run for the sea trial and sent to our partner lab to inspect for metals, additives and contaminants. We use next day delivery to get your results back in a timely manner. If you are in need of a Marine Surveyor in Florida, contact us to discuss your specific needs. Oil Analysis Rate: $75 per sample (express shipping is included)

What is a Marine Survey?

A marine survey is a comprehensive inspection of your vessel with the purpose of determining its condition, value, and seaworthiness. The survey may be requested by your insurance provider or financial underwriters to determine condition and value.

Why do I need a Marine Survey?

The Surveyor will determine if your boat meets safety criteria set forth by The American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), Federal Code of Regulations (FCR), and National Fire Protection Association (NPA). The findings uncovered by the inspection will determine the fair market value of the subject vessel and is often used as a negotiation tool.

How much does a Marine Survey cost?

Our rates depend on which service you require. The pre purchase survey often pays for itself when big ticket repairs are uncovered and open the door for renewed negotiations with the seller. Although we service all areas of Florida and Georgia, additional costs may apply for travel, and/or lodging if required. Rates listed below are for vessels up to 50 feet, and not older than 2010.
