In the realm of marine surveying, vessels each carry a distinctive tale, a unique allure that beckons exploration. Today, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the world of luxury and function aboard the 2020 Cruisers Yachts 38 GLS at Comachee Yacht Harbor in St Augustine, FL.

At first sight, the 38 GLS unveils its essence as a haven for entertainment seekers. Beyond its bow rider setup lies an unexpectedly functional cabin—a harmonious blend of open-air exhilaration and a comfortable sanctuary for relaxation. This dual-purpose design sets the stage for an immersive experience on the water.

Captivation ensues when one delves into the plethora of features adorning this vessel. The triple Mercury V-8 Verado engines, boasting a mere 153 hours, promise a synergy of power and efficiency. Twin Simrad 16″ chartplotters facilitate seamless navigation while the Sureshade aft hardtop not only adds sophistication but also provides a sanctuary from the sun’s intense glare.

Stepping aboard the 38 GLS, a tapestry of opulent amenities unfurls. From AGM batteries to a diesel generator producing 5kW, each detail speaks of opulence and dependability. The ensemble—central vac system, 28″ salon TV, stainless anchor, cockpit grill, electric ice maker, Seadeck flooring, underwater lights, and Simrad VHF—orchestrates an experience crafted for both comfort and convenience.

My journey with this vessel encompassed a meticulous pre-purchase inspection—a thorough evaluation of its structural integrity, mechanical components, electrical systems, and overall condition. Our aim: to equip our client with exhaustive insights ensuring an informed decision.

The survey commenced at Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor with a meticulous visual inspection while the vessel lay nestled in its home slip. Every inch was scrutinized—the hull, superstructure, decks—to discern signs of damage, wear, or structural concerns.

Guided by Mark Droukas of Admiral Yacht Sales, the vessel was effortlessly maneuvered to Camachee Cove’s nearby haul-out facility. The bottom inspection, a critical phase, entailed a comprehensive examination of the hull below the waterline. Our objective: to guarantee the hull’s soundness and resilience, free from any lurking issues that could compromise its integrity.

The sea trial followed—an indispensable segment of our survey. On the water, we assessed the vessel’s performance, handling, and overall functionality, validating its prowess and unearthing nuances not apparent when stationary.

After warming up during sea trial, the trio of outboard Mercury engines underwent oil analysis. Samples were extracted and sent for examination, aiming to unveil internal conditions—wear, metal particles, or contaminants—providing invaluable insights for future maintenance or diagnostics.

Beyond hull and engines, our scrutiny extended to various onboard systems and equipment. Electricals, plumbing, navigation instruments, safety gear—each element underwent meticulous evaluation to ensure compliance with expected standards.

Detailed documentation, comprising notes, photographs, and findings, culminated in a comprehensive pre purchase marine survey report. This dossier outlines the vessel’s condition and value, an invaluable resource empowering our client to make an informed investment.

Through this rigorous survey, our client acquired a holistic understanding of the 2020 Cruisers Yachts 38 GLS, empowering them to navigate their investment with confidence, fortified by comprehensive insights and clarity.
